By Protecting Menus With Menu Covers, Restaurants Can Save So ...

You will see that more restaurants have menu covers; this is more often than not because no one wants to sit down and see them all ripped up or stained. No one can afford to keep replacing the menu so it is best to start out on the right foot and protect them. When you can save money you really should do so; we need to save on our resources when we can and what a better way to do it. Everyone is trying to conserve and save money during the current economic downfall.

When getting a restaurant set up there is a lot of thought that goes into the entire process and that includes the menu covers; you would be surprised at how much thought goes into them. When owning your own establishment, you want to make sure that people know who you are and you can do this by having a menu that looks sharp and clean; when someone sits down to eat they first see the menu. This is going to say a lot about who you are and what you have to offer them.

People usually just toss their pennies wherever and they do not think of the value that they would have after saving them for a while; I was always taught that a penny saved is a penny earned. When you use protective coverings for your menus you could save many pennies for your business; not only that but you want to keep them free of food and beverage stains. With the covers on your menus you will not have to worry so much about dirt or things spilling on them and ruining them; you can take a cloth and wipe away the grime at any time.

You do not have to spend a fortune on your restaurant menu covers and break the bank; there are websites that can save you a lot of money and the more that you purchase, like everything else, the more you can save. You will be able to find many discount shops online that you can order your covers from. When it comes to your menu coverings there are wide selections for you to choose from. Some of the ways that you can promote what your eatery has to offer are with table top ones, drink lists, desserts menus and main course menus. When you choose your menu style you can have a single page or one that folds out in sections.

Your menus do not have to look like all of the other restaurants out there; make them your own and be unique. There are many choices for you; let your creative side out and have fun with this part of your business.

You can find more information at menu covers. Alternatively, you can simply click here.

Data collection in relationships | Capital Lifestyle

(THITU KARIBA) I attended a talk by Michele McKinney Hammond, who said that dating was all about collecting data. I agreed with that word and ran with it. What I found out along the way, is that it takes dating more than one person to gather the data required to make your relationships a success.? The world has this idea that you can date two or more people at a time. That is not the kind of dating I am talking about. If you are to conduct research on any topic, you require varied sources of information, in order to draw a conclusion and the same applies to relationships.

Lately I have found myself in a hot mess with my current and ongoing relationship because of lack of knowledge. That being the case I have taken it upon myself to make dates to collect data on the matter at hand. My issue was on how men think and how to love a man by respecting him. I got to making dates with my male friends to collect the data I needed.? One told me things that allowed me to understand that men don?t act a certain way because of pride but because they are created that way. Another man gave a great example by stating that even if a lion was surrounded by grass he would die of starvation, lions do not eat grass, it?s not pride, it is just how they are made.? That for me revolutionized my thoughts towards men totally.
I made a date to collect Data from my father, from Christian men, from men I knew and men I did not know all that well, I made a date with God my father daily, and I made a date with books written about men. I was on a mission to get as much data as possible which I would use in my conquest to have a successful relationship and eventually a successful marriage. I know and understand that this is not all it takes but it?s a start.
In order to understand something we must take time to define it, study it, appreciate it and respect it.?? When all this is said and done make a date with the one you love and collect more specific data. I came to realize that men assume that women naturally understand how they think or feel but we have no clue. Women expect men to know and understand them and their emotions. A woman may think that her mate? just doesn?t care for her or he?s? just being? plain mean, but that is not true, men really have no clue what to say or do at times?like when we cry.

The statement that:? ?lions do not eat grass? goes for both men and women, it is not pride nor stubbornness nor confusion nor emotions.? That?s just how women were made. It is true what the Bible says, ?people perish for lack of knowledge?. This is true in all relationships, be it friendships, business, marriage etc. Your relationship, friendship, partnership and marriage can die from lack of knowledge. Mine was on the brink of just that, but I chose to do something about it. It is still in ICU but that is far better than the morgue.

Take time today and each day to make a date with knowledge about what and who you care about. Pray for wisdom to be able to apply the knowledge in the manner God would have it so you can succeed.

Favre coaching at Mississippi high school

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) ? Brett Favre lines up at the 40-yard line and takes off in a dead sprint, juking briefly to his right before heading left.

He turns and lifts his arms just before quarterback Kirk McCarty's wobbly pass hits him in stride, right on the hands.

"Nice," Favre said with a grin before firing a spiral back to McCarty. "A little ugly, but that will work."

The three-time NFL Most Valuable Player made his living as one of the greatest quarterbacks in league history. Now he serves as an assistant coach. Or receiver. Or the film editor. Or anything else he thinks needs to be done to make Oak Grove High School a better football team.

Favre is beginning his coaching career in humble surroundings ? as the offensive coordinator of a 1,500-student high school near his home in south Mississippi. He receives no money for the job, but that doesn't mean he's taking in lightly.

"The stress is already getting to me," Favre said, laughing. "I'll wake up in the middle of the night saying, 'Hey, maybe we can do this? Maybe that will work?'"

Favre has kept a low profile since retiring from the NFL in 2010. It's been a stark contrast from his final few years in the league, which were filled with nearly constant on- and off-the-field drama. After a couple years to decompress, he's emerged at Oak Grove, working under veteran high school coach Nevil Barr.

During his playing career, Favre would often work out at Oak Grove in the offseason, throwing passes to the receivers or lifting weights. Barr was always impressed with the way Favre interacted with the players, serving as a mentor even when he could have been aloof. So when Favre returned to Mississippi, Barr always kept in touch to see if the quarterback would be willing to join his staff.

This fall, the timing was right. And the 42-year-old was obviously having a good time Monday morning under the steamy July sun.

One moment he'd be firing passes to receivers. The next, poring over play charts with other assistants.

"What I like best is he's enthusiastic," Barr said. "He makes it fun. Football should be fun. Sometimes we forget that these kids play football because they enjoy it. Everybody knows he's competitive and he likes to win, but the biggest thing is watching how he treats our kids. The way he teaches and his patience. It shocked me how patient he's been."

It's a way for Favre to get back in the game without straying too far from home. His 13-year-old daughter is entering the eighth grade at Oak Grove and he'll be able to see almost all of her volleyball games this season ? though he may be diagraming a football play or two on a notepad while sitting in the stands.

Favre said he's thought about getting into broadcasting or a higher level of coaching, but is content to wait until his daughter is out of high school.

"One of the reasons I retired in the first place was I wanted to be in one place and experience all these things with my family," Favre said. "This year will be a trial basis (for coaching). I feel like I can help the kids, but I'm not promising we'll win any more games. Shoot, we might not win one."

Favre certainly didn't inherit an easy situation. Though Oak Grove is a perennial power at the 6A level ? Mississippi's highest football classification ? the Warriors return just one starter on offense. Some days, Favre feels like a rookie again.

"My experience in pro football means nothing," Favre said. "Absolutely nothing here. It's totally different. So our biggest learning curve as a team might be my learning curve."

Favre said during these early days of training camp, he'll lean on the other coaches to learn the terminology and scheme. But what he offers immediately is the real-world experience of dealing with people, directing a huddle and figuring out what can turn a good player into a better one.

Whether it's Green Bay or Oak Grove, some things in football don't change.

"I really believe I'm good at reading people," Favre said. "From being in the huddle, being in the locker room and in all those meetings for all those years, I understand that some people learn this way and some learn another way. ... My whole job is to try and keep things simple. The more you have to think, the less your talent can show."

The Question You Need To Ask Yourself While You're Gaming | The ...

One of the overblown memes of the game community used to be ?was this beta?? ?(it?s since become a parody at places like the Roosh V Forum). Guys got progressively more absurd about micromanaging and nitpicking their game, even in the face of great success, desperate to earn the respect of the community at every step of the seduction ? and in reality, desperate to head off the hollow criticisms of keyboard jockeys who spend more time knocking other guys? successful field reports than they do with women themselves.

I recall a case where a guy was vibing with a woman in a club, and she suddenly blew him off and walked out the door. He followed her out, caught her in the street, continued the seduction and wound up in her bed.?Then he went on the board and asked everyone ?was it beta to follow her out of the club??

Yes? No? It worked, so who cares? In this fashion, men anxious to qualify themselves to other men got into a pernicious habit of substituting the?appellation?of ?alpha? (or ?not beta?) for real results in the field. (Lots of writers are trying to phase out the alpha-beta nomenclature, but I don?t think it will ever die because it?s just such a useful shorthand for sociosexual leaders versus sociosexual followers.)

I got a comment on my recent post about guys who use the ?beta? archetype as a whipping boy, an object of self-congratulatory scorn by those who had passed out of the Matrix:

This is a general theme which pervades the PUA community. It goes further when you see aspiring players actively denigrate the betas that they once were. I?ve heard of players deliberately go and try to pick up a beta?s girlfriend in front of them, ostensibly because the guy ?deserved it? for having bad game.

Its sick to see how far people take that rejection of their past selves, and I?d like to see more sympathy for betas in general? Its a perversion of thought and a violation of abundance mentality.

I agree that there is some of that beta hate undercurrent (that?s why guys are so eager to check ?was that beta??) and I think it?s somewhat misguided. A guy who is on a game blog or forum, discussing his field work, trying to get better, is going in the right direction. His betatude is a problem to be solved, and he understands that or he wouldn?t be where he was to begin with. Let?s fix his problem, he doesn?t deserve personal slams and contemptuous mocking for it.

Anyway, my point is that ?is this beta?? is a dumb question that doesn?t help guys get better in the game.?Danger & Play posted recently on ?the winning question.? The winning question is,??am I being a pussy?? I find that?s an excellent question for getting me started on things, and is applicable to life in general. However, I?ve gotten better results in the game itself with something else.

THE REAL QUESTION YOU NEED TO ASK IN-GAME

When you?re out in the field running your game (when you?ve gotten past the hump of ?am I being a pussy?), it?s easy to get anxious about your moves, wonder if you?re playing it right, if you?re being too forward, if you?re forcing things.

In those situations there?s just one simple question you need to ask yourself and it?s not ?is this beta??

The question is, ?am I chasing??

While there are some things you just plain shouldn?t do (like racing to grab the check on a date, not that you should be going on expensive dates until things are serious anyway), the answer to the question is less about the action itself and more about your mindset and motivations.

Chasing is what you do when you perceive an opportunity to be slipping away from you. It comes from a needy place, a sense that you have to qualify yourself to a girl, to make a case that you?re the guy she should be with ? a sense that you have to engage her on her terms, not yours.

Chasing is what you do when you agree with a woman?s opinion because you?re afraid your true opinion would offend her.

Chasing is what you do when you keep calling/texting and asking out a woman who is flaky in responding or keeps finding things more important on her schedule than you.?You?re either chasing a woman who?s really not interested (and so you?re coming across as annoying and clueless), or you?re playing into her script that she can treat you poorly and take advantage of your time, attention and money. Either way, it?s not a position you want to be in.

Chasing is really born out of a mindset that you aren?t as good as any of the women you would consider dating, and thus your default position is to assume a supplicating pose, to make a case to her that she should consider you if she?s feeling charitable.

Because chasing is about relative power, to answer the question you need to develop a good sensor for the flow and frame of an interaction, an intuition for the balance of power in the exchange. That should come along with the rest of your passive game, the tools you use to tell if a woman is interested in you, to calibrate your game to her personality?and to gauge the buying temperature.

It?s important to understand that initiating is not chasing. Aloof game is not just sitting around inertly waiting for women to make the moves. Most women are not going to initiate with you. If you?re very high-value or physically attractive, women may hit on you openly, but a generation of effort to get women to act like men has not succeeded in getting women to pursue like men. The best you can hope, as a strategy, for is that women will make themselves approachable and you?ll be able to make low-risk approaches.?Even that is not an entirely sound strategy. You are going to have to go talk to (open) the women you find attractive with no real guarantee you?ll get anything out of the interaction. You aren?t chasing; you are setting up a frame that gives her the opportunity to respond to you.

Escalating is also not chasing. Just as above, you cannot expect women will do the escalation, as a general rule. All that Gen Y feminist stuff about ?enthusiastic consent? is a bunch of hooey ? even women who positively want sex with you are often not going to take on the burden of pushing it forward, but will respond to your sexual leadership.?An over-eagerness when escalating IS chasing, and a major cause of blown seductions (one of my go-to escalation moves is to spontaneously back off on the sexual energy and see if she responds by bringing it back up).

Investing modestly in a woman is not chasing, not necessarily at least. When you buy a woman a drink on a date, are you doing it because you?re a high-value guy inviting her to be a guest in your space for the next hour, or because you?re afraid if you don?t do what she expects she?ll reject you? One is chasing, the other is not.

Chasing, again, is action taken against what you perceive to be a widening gap of interest.

If you?re chasing, check yourself. Take a deep breath. Back off a bit. See if she fills the gap.

Approach, initiate, escalate, invest. Just don?t chase.

Rare Diseases: 5 Recent Reasons to Cheer

On Sunday morning, July 21, I faced a room of people from families with Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA), an inherited blindness caused by mutations in any of at least 18 genes. It was the final session of the Foundation for Retinal Research?s bi-annual LCA family conference, and I was there to discuss the history of gene therapy. But I zapped through that quickly, because the future is much more intriguing.

Exome sequencing identified the rare mutation that causes Gavin Stevens? hereditary blindness (Leber congenital amaurosis, or LCA). (Troy Stevens)

The excitement pervading the room that day was palpable, following a day of scientific updates, and not only because those with young children were soon to visit Sesame World and the sights of Philadelphia.

Jennifer and Troy Stevens exemplified that hope. Two years earlier, at this conference, they?d learned that researchers had been unable to identify a mutation behind their toddler Gavin?s blindness. Now they know the name of their gene: NMNAT1. I?ll return to their story.

The star of the 2010 conference had been 10-year-old Corey Haas and an energetic young sheepdog, both cured of LCA with gene therapy. This weekend, the stars were the new programs and technologies that would allow other families to join Corey?s ? and not just those with blindness.

The rare disease community in the US collectively belies its name: at least 30 million people suffer from 7,000+ diseases, many so rare that they hover beneath the radar of big pharma. But maybe not for long, thanks to the following recent reasons to cheer:

#1: GENE THERAPY PENDING APPROVAL

On July 20, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced impending first approval of a gene therapy in the western world.

It?s for lipoprotein lipase deficiency (LPLD). The enzyme normally breaks down tiny triglyceride-packed globules called chylomicrons, and its absence causes episodes of very painful pancreatitis that can be fatal. LPLD is an ultra-rare disease, striking 1-2 people per million. And the only treatment is a diet so low in fat that most patients can?t stick to it.

The gene therapy, Glybera, consists of adeno-associated virus type 1 delivering an overactive variant of the LPL gene, injected into a leg muscle during a single day. But not many people have had it.

James Wilson, MD, PhD, developed the vector, AAV1, used in the lipoprotein lipase deficiency gene therapy. (University of Pennsylvania).

James Wilson, MD, PhD, developed the vector, AAV1, used in the lipoprotein lipase deficiency gene therapy. (University of Pennsylvania).

The research team, led by Daniel Gaudet, MD, PhD, a professor of medicine at the University of Montreal, with colleagues from Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics (recently replaced by privately-held UniQure), reported a two-year follow-up of 14 adult patients receiving 100 billion to 1 trillion viruses. And it seems to have worked, depending upon how one assesses success.

?The triglycerides dropped, but after 60 days they trended back up. The primary endpoint had failed, but the secondary endpoint was recurring episodes of pancreatitis ? and they found a statistically significant, or close to it, decrease,? explained James Wilson, MD, PhD, editor-in-chief of Human Gene Therapy and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, who developed the vector. Tracking a few more patients, work not yet published, may have led the EMA?s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use to finally recommend approval, after three rejections.

Tomas Salmonson, MD, acting chair of the committee, points to the new data as well as restricting use to the sickest patients in pushing the gene therapy forward. ?Our established ways of assessing the benefits and risks of Glybera were challenged by the extreme rarity of the condition and also by uncertainties associated with data provided.?

For the additional study, the researchers looked at what was happening in the chylomicrons in the blood, and found that triglyceride level can fluctuate, contrary to assumptions of steady change. And that means something is happening that might explain the decrease in the painful episodes ? a very real measurement. Summed up Jean Bennett, MD, PhD, leader of one of the LCA2 clinical trials at Penn, ?It?s a huge vote of confidence for the entire field of gene transfer.?

Dr. Wilson agrees. The repercussions won?t be at the FDA, where scientists make decisions based on data, he said, but on the willingness of big pharma to invest in gene therapy. Despite recent successes ? LCA2, hemophilia, adrenoleukodystrophy ? the pharmaceutical industry has been hesitant to fund gene therapy because it has lacked an approval. ?So-called regulatory uncertainty has been the biggest problem, and if there?s no precedent, they can continue to say no. Biopharma is not interested in the ultra orphans. But I have a feeling we?ll be seeing some activity,? he added.

#2: FINDING HOMES FOR STALLED DRUGS

By August 14, researchers can submit pre-applications to the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Discovering New Therapeutic Uses for Existing Molecules program. The idea is simple yet brilliant: match compounds that are languishing on company shelves to diseases with newly-discovered mechanisms. Such candidate drugs have passed initial safety tests but were dropped for business reasons, such as a tiny market, or because they didn?t treat what they were intended to.

Corey Haas and Hannah Sames are ambassadors for the rare disease community, here signing their photos in ?The Forever Fix: Gene Therapy and the Boy Who Saved It.? Corey has LCA2, successfully treated with gene therapy, and Hannah, awaiting hers, is one of 54 people in the world who has giant axonal neuropathy. (Sandy Andersen)

Since the announcement in June, eight industry leaders have signed on, offering an initial 58 compounds to find new therapeutic homes. And the need is compelling: of the 4,500+ diseases with recently-revealed mechanisms, only about 250 have treatments. ?If researchers funded through this effort can demonstrate new uses for the compounds, they could significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to get a treatment to patients in need,? said Kathy L. Hudson, PhD, NCATS acting deputy director.

Everyone wins.

#3: SPEEDING FDA APPROVAL

On July 9, President Obama signed into law the FDA Safety and Innovation Act, which updates the 1983 Orphan Drug Act. The new law provides $6 billion over the next 5 years to assist the agency in evaluating new drugs and medical devices. The Act will speed access to new treatments and development of especially promising ones, and the Humanitarian Use Devices program will target those that treat rare diseases, giving priority to diseases of children. ?Treatments are desperately needed because most are serious, many are life-threatening, and about two-thirds of the patients are children,? said Peter L. Saltonstall, president and CEO of the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), which was critical in developing both acts.

The Act may be a lifesaver for people such as 8-year-old Hannah Sames, one of 54 people in the world known to have giant axonal neuropathy. The gene therapy trial that she will take part in is nearing phase 1, but the sponsoring not-for-profit, Hannah?s Hope Fund, is about to run out of money.

#4: EASING INSURANCE ACCESS

When the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act on June 28, I scrolled through the relieved statements from various rare disease organizations. Thanks to the ACA, children like Hannah Sames and Gavin Stevens will not be penalized for their pre-existing conditions, nor face annual or lifetime insurance caps.

#5: IDENTIFYING DISEASE GENES

Exome sequencing can identify mutations when single-gene tests don?t. The strategy sequences the protein-encoding part of the human genome in individuals, usually young children, whose syndrome has evaded recognition, searching for mutations passed silently from parents, with functions that could explain the symptoms. Once that?s known, researchers can develop new treatments, or repurpose existing ones.

New exome-derived discoveries are being reported nearly weekly, some appearing in the media before the technical papers are published. A recent news release about a 4-year-old named Maya with a neurological disease, for example, made its way into many news reports and blogs, with a touching story and accolades. Yet none named the gene or its precise function ? the part I?m most interested in.

In contrast to the incomplete Maya story, when John Chiang, PhD, director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at the Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon told me he?d discovered Gavin Stevens? mutation among nearly 2,500 gene variants in the blind boy?s exome, he asked that I not report it. That was 8 months ago ? the mutation is unveiled in a quartet of papers in the current Nature Genetics, after something of a turf war among four research groups.

Gavin?s parents had heard about Dr. Chiang at the Foundation for Retinal Research meeting two years ago, where Jennifer had called him, distraught, after learning that single-gene tests couldn?t explain their son?s blindness. Dr. Chiang, who described his skill as ?I do the dirty work, I find the mutations,? had helped several families after existing tests had fruitlessly, but expensively, probed the most common parts of only the most common genes. Dr. Chiang had first developed larger gene testing panels, and when those still didn?t identify some families? mutations, quietly sent their DNA off to the Beijing Genome Institute for whole exome sequencing.

Now that exome sequencing is commercially available in the U.S., Dr. Chiang cautions that it still doesn?t help all families, and that costs can greatly exceed the oft-mentioned $1,000 pricetag when considering analysis. ?I would only recommend it as the last resort when all known genes are ruled out,? he advised.

Karen Poulakos has Leber congenital amaurosis, and does quite well in her world of shadows. Gene therapy may return the vision that she remembers from her childhood. (Ricki Lewis)

On Saturday at the retinal research conference last weekend, I watched Jennifer and Troy beam as Eric Pierce, MD, PhD, director of the Ocular Genomics Institute in Boston and co-author of one of the Nature Genetics papers, talked about their mutation. Discovery of the gene, which affects cellular energy (NAD synthesis), is a starting point for gene therapy, and this particular candidate is a great target. ?The gene is small, and encodes an enzyme,? said Dr. Pierce.

The next day, as my talk about the history of gene therapy wound down, I took stock of my audience. Two young women with canes sat in the front row. A few rows back sat Karen Poulakos, also with a cane, whom I?d chatted with earlier.

Karen has Corey?s disease, LCA2, but, at age 63, had been deemed too old for the gene therapy clinical trial two years ago. But things had changed, she?d learned at the meeting, and she just might be eligible for the phase 3 trial coming up. Karen has lived a full life in her world of shadows, barely remembering when she could see better, and she?s now contemplating what it might be like to see again.

As I collected my things, I marveled at the hope radiating from the faces in the room, sighted as well as not. And I thought that this is science at its very best. This is what it is all about, the molecules, the mice, the deciphering of nature?s mechanisms: helping people.

Top Self Improvement Tips To Propel You Forward

Improving your life through personal development can make you feel more confident and capable. Meeting your goals in life takes patience and hard work. There is no better time to start the rest of life than now, but you need some ideas. Read on for some such ideas to help you on your way.

Begin a special savings for emergencies. It appears as though every time something unexpected happens, we charge more to our credit cards. If you take a few dollars and put them into an emergency fund every week, you will build a nice amount of money to use whenever something unexpected arises. This fund will help you stay out of debt if you have to face an emergency.

Work more efficiently to get the most out of your effort. This trick involves taking more breaks when working. Although this seems counterproductive, taking regular breaks is good because it gives you the chance to recharge your mind, so when you resume work, you?ll be able to get more done.

No matter what, you must adhere to one rule. You need to participate in life and not watch from the sidelines. Watching life go by, without participating, cuts you off from the world, and humans were meant to get out there and live life.

Stay in top physical condition to maximize your personal development success. Getting enough sleep, having a healthy diet, and exercising regularly are simple activities that keep energy high, and it gives you a better chance at being successful with your personal development. While it may sound simple, this is sometimes one of the most difficult things to do.

Determine the things that you value so that you can better come up with an excellent personal development strategy for your needs. Working against these values will lead to frustration and failure. Spend your time on things that are in line with your values. Doing this will help you make changes throughout your life that can benefit you.

Is it hard for you to meet that special someone? Have you considered online dating? Surprisingly, forty percent of today?s couples met online. You may find one that is looking for someone like you. Each has its good and bad points.

Select one important part of yourself that you would like to improve, and focus on that. There are probably many things that you are wanting to change, but focusing on one will make success more likely. GAAR proposals too vague: International Business Council | Firstpost

New Delhi: A group of leading US-based MNCs have expressed their concern over the draft GAAR taxation proposals, saying that the proposed regulations are ?too vague? to comfort the business investors.

Besides, there is a risk that the panel proposed for reviewing the cases of GAAR applications could become a ?rubber-stamp? approval entity for the position of tax administrators, the US Council For International Business (USCIB) has written to the Finance Ministry.

Reuters

USCIB is a leading industry group and has more than 300 top US-based global companies as members, which include American Express, Apple, BP, Citigroup, Coca-Cola, Dow Chemical, Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and PepsiCo.

Providing its comments on the recently proposed draft guidelines regarding implementation of General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR), USCIB has said that the ?proposed guidelines are too vague to provide certainty to business investors.?

?For example, an important part of certainty is respecting the obligations imposed by double taxation agreements between treaty partners. Treaty obligations should generally not be overridden by GAAR provisions,? the letter noted.

?? We believe that the application of the GAAR rules in this manner would constitute an impermissible unilateral amendment of the United States-Indian Treaty,? it added.

The USCIB also said that the guidelines do not clarify the role of a three-member panel, whose approval is necessary for the tax administration to proceed with a GAAR case.

?That the taxpayer would still have access to competent authority procedures and Indian courts should be made clear. In addition, it would seem unlikely that all of the potential applications of the GAAR could be reviewed by a single three member panel, particularly given the fact that senior officials are required to participate on the panel and the short time frames associated with the process.

?We applaud the recognition that these issues need to be resolved quickly, but are concerned that this will lead to ?rubber stamp? approvals of the tax administration?s position.

?This may be the case even if multiple panels are set up, as the guidelines permit. Thus the role and structure of the three-member panel should be more clearly defined,? it said.

Introduction of GAAR, which was proposed by then Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in March to check tax evasion, had triggered strong opposition by foreign investors following which its implementation was postponed till April, 2013.

The Finance Ministry came out with draft guidelines on GAAR last month, wherein it invited comments from the stakeholders.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also set up a committee earlier this month for holding consultations to bring in greater clarity and prepare a roadmap by? 30 September for implementation of GAAR.

In its comments, USCIB said the examples given in the draft proposals ?are very general and simple?.

Noting that the real cases will be more complex, USCIB said ?this lack of clarity will create the opportunity for subjective interpretations by the tax authorities that may result in numerous disputes?.

USCIB said the guidelines may be intended to provide clarity to taxpayers, but ?the current guidance in the examples leaves significant uncertainty.?

USCIB also supported the comments submitted earlier this month by the Asia Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and the Capital Markets Tax Committee of Asia, concerning the application of the GAAR rules to the financial markets. ?Capital markets need a safe harbour that does not require them to disavow treaty benefits to which they may be entitled,? it added.

Earlier, a number of US industry associations had written to the US government?s Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, expressing their concern over the proposed GAAR regulations.? These industry bodies included the Financial Executives International, Financial Services Forum, Information Technology Industry Council, Investment Company Institute, Managed Funds Association, National Foreign Trade Council, Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, Software Finance and Tax Executives Council, TechAmerica, US Chamber of Commerce, US-India Business Council, as also USCIB.

They requested Geithner to address these concerns with representatives of the Indian government. The industry bodies had said that ?if enacted, the proposals will have a significant negative effect on member companies operating in India, their customers and shareholders, and investment in India.?

Roofing Parts and Their Structural Functions

Notwithstanding its big part in shielding your family and home, the roofing system stays one of the many architectural components you typically take for granted. You'll find out that it's difficult to visualize a home without a roofing. That's because we want them to live and function easily, whether in the home or at work. Without one your property would have no defense against the elements and your health in general would be much poorer.

Man has been making use of roofs to defend their houses since the very idea of refuge existed. The original roofs were constructed from animal hides such as wooly mammoths and plant material like branches and reeds. As time passed roofing construction approaches and materials around the world evolved more superior. The age-old Chinese, for one, were utilizing clay tiles back in 10,000 BC. This would be rediscovered and applied in the early 13th century by King John of England, who instructed all house owners to substitute their combustible straw and wood roofs with clay tiles.

These days there are many roof kinds a would-be property owner can choose from, and even more kinds of material he can pick for his roof to be made of. Said materials are steel, concrete, asphalt, and even plastic and rubber. Let's have a look at a few well-known roof kinds and what composes them.

One of many oldest roofing types still utilized is the thatched roof. These are produced from a variety of forms of plants like reeds, heather, or straw like the English of King John's time. They were generally utilized by commoners for their affordable and easy availability, even though they were quite simple to set ablaze.

Another more contemporary roof type is the concrete roof. Ask any number of Chattanooga roofers and for the most part, they'll show you that concrete is superior to wood due to its heat resistance, low upkeep, and toughness. It can also be created to resemble other roof models while keeping away from the concerns that come from employing the real material (weight, for instance). Basically: all the elegance, none of the hassle.

But when it comes to the best materials in roofing Chattanooga (among other places) can supply, almost none can meet or exceed metal roofs. Lots of property owners favor them for their heat-reflective characteristics, which subsequently results in lower energy costs and lower utility bills. They're also lightweight and easy to set up. It's not unconventional to just set up the fresh metal roof over the existing one.

Carly Rae Jepsen: Threatened by Lady Gaga!

Carly Rae Jepsen is having a tough week.

The 26-year old singer was rumored to have starred in a sex tape, and then authorities confirmed that her email was hacked and there are nude Jepsen photos floating around somewhere.

Now, Lady Gaga has set her sights on Carly Rae.

Lady Gaga as a PassengerCarly Rae Jepsen in Red

With "Call Me Maybe" surpassing Gaga's "Born This Way" and setting the record for most weeks atop the Billboard 100 (7), the eccentric artist has taken to Twitter and addressed her young competition:

"@carlyraejepson (sic) I SEE you just swooped in and broke my BORN THIS WAY record of the most weeks at #1.. DONT GET COMFORTABLE IM COMING FOR YOU."

We assume the Lady was joking around, and this is actually a big sign of respect for Jepsen. Still, we might sleep with at least half an eye open if we were Carly Rae. Gaga's followers are dubbed Little Monsters, after all.

Worldwide market share for smartphones

IDC reported Friday that Samsung has extended its lead over Apple in smartphone shipments worldwide, in part because its new Galaxy phones came out before Apple updated its iPhone.

Samsung's Galaxy S3 phones got good reviews when it came out late in the second quarter. Apple's iPhone 4S came out in October, and a new one isn't due until this fall. A drop in market share for Apple is typical several months after the release of an iPhone model.

Samsung and Apple dominate with nearly half of the worldwide market for smartphones.

Here are IDC's figures for worldwide smartphone unit shipments and market share in the second quarter of 2012:

? Samsung Electronics Co., 50.2 million units, 32.6 percent share (17 percent a year earlier)

? Apple Inc., 26 million units, 16.9 percent share (18.8 percent a year earlier)

? Nokia Corp., 10.2 million units, 6.6 percent share (15.4 percent a year earlier)

? HTC Corp., 8.8 million units, 5.7 percent share (10.7 percent a year earlier)

? ZTE Corp., 8 million units, 5.2 percent share (1.8 percent a year earlier)

Evon Von: Let's talk fitness: An Interview with Lorenzo Robiso

With the Olympics less than 2 days away, I always get more excited about working out. That's why I'm super excited to bring you a new interview! In this interview you will meet Lorenzo Robiso, certified trainer and fitness nutrition coach! Enjoy!
So that my readers can get to know you, tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Lorenzo Robiso, often referred as ?Lolo? or ?Zo?. I'm a young average Joe trying not to be so average, trying to make it big and hopefully bringing along like minded individuals along with me. I am currently pursuing an education in advanced dietetics and exercise science. I love anything with coconut.

I understand that you are a certified trainer as well as a fitness nutrition coach. Was this always the path you wanted?

Fitness and health has become an integral part in my life, which began in high school through sports. I am learning tons, not only about the craft but also a lot about myself. This path has brought me nothing short of a blessed life and I don't expect to ever turn my back on it.

How long have you been training and coaching others?
This year (2012) I was able to obtain my certifications whilst under the wing of my current trainers for the past year.

What about health and fitness interests you?

The ability of health and fitness to change peoples lives for the better. It has to mine and I only wish to give to people what it has given me. Not only is health a necessity but that health and fitness can provide an improved health, a stronger mind, and a never ceasing flow of energy. It's a journey that will only end once you do. It can provide a way of focusing that can be used outside of training for all aspects of life.

Are there any "rules" that you live by as far as health goes?
To practice and constantly improve my mental state first and foremost. The mental attitude is the one thing that everyone owns and has complete control of. I can say that my physical and spiritual state has been rooted to how I choose to think and such will decide on how I end up approaching any proceedings.

To perform constant reflection periods to appropriately face adversity to prevent myself from walking aimlessly or ending up lost when facing an obstacle.

As a trainer, are there any pet peeves that you have?

Not any more than the usual individual might have like schedules not working out, forgetting something...the usual.
The only pet peeve I have is when people lack self accountability and are quick to look for an excuse. Otherwise, I try not to worry about little things.

For a lot of people (myself included) diet seems to be the? downfall. How do you approach this?

This seems to be the most challenging with many and I have to deal with this issue myself. Lots of research and listening to the body are the best approaches. Diet doesn't have to be a burden, there are tons of recipes and delicious foods out there that are healthy. Always explore and try new things!

I know that you are a busy guy, how do you deal with a busy schedule and stay motivated?

Proper planning and scheduling. I have a planner everywhere I go and multiple at that, from electronic to paper.?I look for motivation in other aspiring individuals in fitness and by choosing to surround myself with people who have been supportive throughout all the sacrifices I had to make. It's easiest when I 'm with those who do not inflict any influence on me that could dismay me from my goals. I choose to surround myself with those who are positive thinkers and are determined towards creating something of themselves.

What is the most rewarding part for you as a trainer and coach?
Everybody has a potential for something, and whatever that is, it should be shared.Bad habits and a poor lifestyle can get in the way of this and I can't stand to see someone who is capable of achievement fall short. My goal is to help another realize their potential, and even if it's just the slightest bit, then I am fulfilling my purpose. I decided I would assist individuals with their health towards a better quality life and hopefully in doing so, they can inspire and motivate the people in their lives to do the same. That will be more than enough of a reward for me and I will be committed to anyone as much as they are willing to commit with me.?

What is the most challenging part?

Juggling schedules with training clients, my own training, studying, and time to spend with family and friends.
I used to think I would miss out? on a lot. Trading nights of entertainment for nights of preparation and rest for next morning's early challenges, but I have found a community through all of this and I am meeting a ton of new people. I wouldn't trade it for anything else and I refuse to let anything get in the way of what I'm essentially working towards and for the people I'm working for.

Have you ever participated in any competitions? If not, is that something you would ever want to do?

Expect something big in the near future. I believe in competition as I believe it truly brings out our true character and characteristics in us that we may have never encountered before.

Any advice or tips that you would like to share with us?

I am always told by my coach, ?Think about? the choices that you are about to make and how it may or may not deviate you from what you're ultimately working towards?.

Goals will always change, do not let minor mishaps consume you. Instead, constantly raise and focus more on your standards. Your standards will eventually become your way of thinking and essential practices. Have integrity in whatever you are setting out to do because it will always be worth it to say ?I am now headed where I had not only hoped for, but worked for?.

?No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained byit? Hebrews 12:11

Are you ready to be motivate? Would you like to learn more about Lorenzo? Be sure and follow him on twitter @irenzR

Facebook Scheduling Tool for Business Improves EdgeRank ...

Tiny clock

Maximizing Facebook Fan engagement and excelling at the ever mysterious ?EdgeRank? are top priorities for both business owners and marketing firms in this digital age. Unfortunately these lofty aims often take the backseat to more pressing demands, like actually running a business, rather than just writing about one online. Even if businesses have dedicated staff members available to not just to post but also to actively interact with fans, it can be difficult to coordinate posts for the right time of day for maximum fan engagement. Enter the Facebook scheduling tool for pages, which takes some of the inconsistency and stress out of posting regularly.

How To Use the New Feature

Teach me how to schedule

The feature is easy to miss inside the update box, and was added with little fanfare or acknowledgment from Facebook in late May. It appears as a tiny clock in the bottom left side of the box, and offers you the ability to backdate or schedule posts. In order to use the feature, you must first set up a Timeline event for the founding date of your business. After finishing this simple step, you are free to schedule posts in 10 minute increments within a window of more than a year into the future. You are not limited to simply scheduling written posts, as you can also schedule links and images, which appear exactly the same as if you had posted them manually. There have been some issues with the new feature, but most of those were resolved rather quickly by the Facebook development team.

Facebook Scheduler vs. Third Party Scheduling

This new feature is great because it replaces any need to use third party scheduling sites, such as HootSuite or Postling. Many users have reported decreases in EdgeRank when using 3rd party scheduling sites, not to mention the fact that the post is clearly labeled as coming from an outside source. Pictures never looked quite right when scheduled through a third party, and links often seemed to be truncated or dead when the posts finally appeared through Facebook.

Activity Log

One of the major initial complaints about the Facebook scheduling feature was that there was no way to go back and view the posts after scheduling them. This is untrue as a full list of scheduled posts can be obtained under the Admin panel, but is rather difficult to locate unless you already know its there. Once you?re within the ?Activity Log? you can change the date of scheduled posts, cancel them, or post them immediately. At this point, there is no way to edit the posts that have already been scheduled, but hopefully that feature will be added eventually.

What We?ve Found

Organic FB increases

We began using Facebook scheduler instead of HootSuite to publish updates on many of our clients? pages around June 15th. Over the course of the last few weeks, we have seen a dramatic increase in fan engagement and ?likes?, as well as sharing. Here is a screenshot of one of our client?s organic reach over the last month. You can see that it has steadily increased (with a slight and expected dip on July 4th!) and is currently reaching about 500 more fans per week than it was in mid-June. These results are great, but we find something even more remarkable when we look at viral and total reach for this timeframe.

Total FB increases

As you can tell from this graph, we do not do any paid fan-building for this client, so this data is based entirely on the increase in visitors and shares on the page. Our organic reach has increased by about 500 fans per week, but our total reach has increased to over 15,000 people per week. This number is especially remarkable because this page only has about 3,400 fans. ?Not only does it appear that this client?s EdgeRank increased dramatically, but that increase has had a huge effect on the viral nature of our posts, photos, and albums.

Have you tried the Facebook scheduling tool yet? Try it out and let us know if it?s successful for your business in the comments!

Gabrielle Giffords tours European physics lab

GENEVA (AP) ? Former U.S. congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is touring the European particle physics laboratory as part of her first trip abroad since being shot in the head in January of last year.

Giffords' husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, was involved in installing a $2 billion cosmic ray detector for the Geneva-based European Center for Nuclear Research on the International Space Station in May 2011.

That mission came just months after Giffords, a lawmaker from Arizona, was shot by a gunman in a rampage that killed six and wounded 13.

Giffords said little but appeared alert and cheerful at a press conference Wednesday in Geneva that highlighted the astronauts' work. A day after an outing in the French Alps, Kelly said his wife was doing well, but they declined to answer more questions.

Japan LTE growth continues, NTT DoCoMo adds a million users in under 2 months

As British readers bang their heads on desks, and LTE remains something perpetually happening "next year," another island nation is very much on-board with the new tech. NTT DoCoMo, one of Japan's biggest mobile carriers, has announced it now has over 4 million LTE users, with the last million joining its 4G Xi (pronounced "crossy") network in the last month and a half. Speeds top out at an impressive 75 Mbps, with eight of its most recent releases -- including the Galaxy S III and the Optimus Vu -- compatible with the new network. NTT DoCoMo saw uptake growth double after launching the LTE-centric summer range.

Giffords, who still uses a wheelchair much of the time, was on her first trip outside the United States since she was shot in the head by a gunman in January 2011 as she met local people outside a Tucson supermarket.

She rode the two-stage cable car to a station with spectacular views of Mont Blanc and other peaks in France, Italy and Switzerland.

In bright sunshine but sub-zero temperatures at an altitude of 3,842 meters (12,605 feet) at the cable-car station on the Aiguille du Midi peak, Giffords smiled as she stood with her husband's arm around her shoulders.

"Gaby is really enjoying this visit," Kelly told friends and reporters. "This is a great day for us."

Kelly, accompanied by other U.S. astronauts, then visited a nearby mountain research station to install a plaque recalling the last U.S. space shuttle mission.

The trip was organized by Chamonix Tourist Office and the European Nuclear Research Centre, CERN, in Geneva, where the AMS particle detector, which Kelly and his Endeavour team took to the International Space Station in May 2011, was developed.

Giffords was a Democratic member of the House of Representatives but resigned her seat this January, saying her district deserved to have a representative "who can give 100 per cent to the job."

Six people were killed in last year's shooting, which was thought to have been an attempt to assassinate Giffords. She is undergoing intensive therapy and her speech is impaired.?

Mailbag: Ichiro worth a gamble for Yankees

Playing for a contender could invigorate once-great outfielder

Image: Ichiro SuzukiAP

Ichiro Suzuki's bat has declined over the last two seasons, but he still plays a strong outfield and possesses speed on the basepaths.

MLB EXPERT MAILBAG

By Tony DeMarco

NBCSports.com contributor

updated 6:44 p.m. ET July 24, 2012

Tony DeMarco

Baseball Expert Tony DeMarco has been covering the big leagues since 1987, and been casting Hall of Fame ballots for the last 15 years. He answers questions weekly here:

Q: Ichiro is a huge name, obviously, but has declined greatly in the last couple of seasons. What kind of impact do you think he can make with the Yankees?
? Harland Roberts, New York

A: Yes, Ichiro's downward-trending numbers are undeniable. His last outstanding season was 2010, when he batted .315 with a league-leading 214 hits. But even in that season, he fell off his career pace in runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS. Things have gone downhill in a hurry from there, as in 2011-12, Ichiro is a .268 hitter, his on-base percentage is right around .300 and his OPS is down to .644 ? about .100 points below his career mark.

But the Yankees were willing to gamble that Ichiro, 38, will be invigorated by the move from arguably the AL's worst team to arguably the best ? with another trip to the postseason pending ? and I agree that it's worth a shot.

A single in his first Yankee at-bat, and subsequent stolen base, showed there's still something left ? and it wouldn't shock me a bit if a recharged Ichiro hits close to .300, pulls a half-dozen homers into those ridiculously reachable right-field seats at Yankee Stadium, and plays regularly down the stretch in pinstripes. As for beyond this season, it's simply too early to tell.

But there is a far more-immediate need here, as the deal comes in the wake of Brett Gardner's loss due to a season-ending elbow injury, and Nick Swisher being temporarily sidelined by a hip injury. And don't underrate the four-game sweep suffered at the hands of the Oakland A's over the weekend as an impetus, either.

While manager Joe Girardi has indicated Ichiro will play mostly in left field once Swisher returns, it also won't surprise me if Ichiro ends up playing a lot in his customary right field ? where he has won 10 Gold Gloves (the last in 2010), and has a far stronger and accurate arm than Swisher.

But wherever Ichiro plays, he makes the Yankees' outfield defense better. He also brings a speed element (16 of 18 steal attempts this season) that was lost with Gardner's injury.

Ichiro's addition will take at-bats from the current left-field platoon of Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones, but that makes the bench deeper, and Girardi has rotated several players through the DH spot, anyway.

So there really is much potentially to gain, and little downside risk here, as the prospects sent to the Mariners are fringe types, unlikely to contribute much at the big-league level.

Q: The A's are playing great baseball of late, winning games against good competition. How are they getting it done, and can they keep it up?
? Jeff Stockton, San Diego

A: No team is hotter, as the A's have gone 14-2 in July and 8-1 since the All-Star break ? taking their record from 37-42 to 51-44 and putting themselves in wild-card contention.

They do it with pitching, of course, as their home park is one of the most pitcher-friendly in the game. They lead the AL in ERA and opponents' batting average, their bullpen ERA is the only one in the AL under 3.00, and their walk rate (1.65 per game) has been the majors' best in July.

And it's no coincidence that the second-half surge has paralleled Yoenis Cespedes' hot streak ? 18 for 36 with four homers and nine RBI in nine games after the break.

Bob Melvin's team also has a knack for walk-off wins, with a major-league-leading 11, and that can get contagious, leading to overachieving seasons such as the 2011 Diamondbacks were able to pull off. And while nobody's threatening Rickey Henderson's stolen base records, these A's do run ? currently third in the AL in steals.

With Brett Anderson and Brandon McCarthy likely to return soon to join young starters Jarrod Parker and Tommy Milone, you wouldn't expect too much falloff in the staff's performance.

But the problem remains an offense that is last in the league in runs and batting average, and second-to-last in on-base percentage and slugging percentage ? and you don't make the postseason with that lack of production.

So the A's are looking for help, particularly at third base ? Chase Headley, among others ? and likely will make a deal, without getting carried away. You have to keep in mind that winning a wild-card spot now guarantees you nothing more than a one-game playoff, and that's why you're not seeing teams in wild-card contention (but not division-title contention) deal away elite prospects.

The A's chances of winning a playoff spot are enhanced by the AL East teams beating up on each other, but even so, they're one of six teams most likely shooting for one wild-card spot ? maybe two ? so the odds aren't good.

But they're sure fun to watch right now.

Q: Early in the season, you noted the Braves looked like they were coming to an end of a long run as contenders. Things have changed since then, and they look like a reasonable bet for a wildcard, if not the division title. What are they doing now that wasn't happening earlier?
? David Pabon, Mission Hills, Calif.

A: I did pick the Braves to finish fourth in the NL East, but with 83 wins, so it's not as if I thought they were falling apart.

I had a handful of concerns about them bouncing back from their 2011 collapse, and some of those problem areas still exist. But the Braves sit eight games over .500 in second place, and in solid wild-card contention ? thanks in part to the bigger problems of the Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies.

My Braves concerns were: A rotation somewhat in flux ? Tim Hudson, Tommy Hanson and Jair Jurrjens were coming off 2011 injuries. While the first two have been solid, the latter still is struggling.

Meanwhile, were the younger starting pitchers ready to step up? The answer has turned out to be no, and in fact, the Braves reportedly could be adding Ryan Dempster to their rotation ? a nice pickup if it happens. And how about Ben Sheets' comeback? Nobody was expecting him to throw 12 shutout innings in his first two starts since 2010.

Shortstop was another concern, and they're trying Paul Janish after the unfortunate injury to Andrelton Simmons, who looks like he'll be one of the game's better defensive shortstops.

Could the heavily-worked threesome of Craig Kimbrel, Jonny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty do it for a second year in a row? Yes in two of three cases, but Venters has struggled and spent time on the DL. Fortunately, Kris Medlen has stepped up.

And finally, the health of Chipper Jones/lack of power in the lineup. While the Braves are middle-of-the-NL-pack in homers, they are fourth in runs scored, so they're scoring enough to be a playoff team. Still, there is at least speculation about a deal for Justin Upton (although if he is dealt, it's far more likely to come in the off-season, rather than in the next week).

It all adds up to the Braves being one of eight teams fighting for the five NL playoff spots ? the Nationals, Reds, Pirates, Cardinals, Giants, Dodgers and Diamondbacks being the others ? and capable of passing a Nationals team that will be shutting down their ace pitcher in September.

The next checkpoint is the July 31 trade deadline, which as we saw once again with the Cardinals last season, can dramatically change teams' fortunes.
